Norwegian citizens can legally marry in Greece, and the marriage becomes valid under Norwegian law once it is properly registered afterwards. What you need to know:

- You must have a valid certificate of no impediment from the Norwegian Tax Administration in advance – just like for a wedding in Norway

- The marriage must be registered with the Greek civil registry (lixiarchio) where the ceremony took place

- Documentation requirements vary somewhat from municipality to municipality, so this should be clarified well in advance

Many of the couples we work with choose a different path: they get legally married at home in Norway before departure and use Crete for the celebration itself – the ceremony, the party, and the experience with their guests. This completely eliminates the question of the "correct" month, as there is no legal deadline to adhere to.

Crete has a milder and longer "wedding window" than much of France. April–June and September–October offer pleasant temperatures and fewer tourists. July–August is the warmest, with reliable sunshine, but also high season for both prices and demand from the best vendors. Even the winter months can work well for a smaller, intimate indoor celebration, with milder temperatures than most associate with a "winter wedding."
